Are you a fan of the winter? Here in the Pacific Northwest people pray for snow! For some, however, it's hard to see the beauty. It's cold, darker than usual and harder to get around. Unless you're an outdoor enthusiast the benefits of winter are harder to recognize. Here are some points to consider. John Steinbeck's quote, "What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness" helps us to see more clearly the beauty of nature as we watch evolve from dormancy to full bloom. We humans also follow a bio-rhythm sequence, including a time of hibernation. Winter was designed to rest and restore. Slowing down in the winter gives us an opportunity to express our creativity in different ways, to rest from working the land and to offer more time to gather as friends. Another refiners is in William Blake's quote, "In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy." Don't forget to play and enjoy the winter wonderland. Fight the urge to stay indoors! Get outside and soak in some daylight to boost your serotonin. It will help you sleep better and prevent the winter blues. Try something new like knitting, baking bread or simply warm your bones in a hot tub or while stretching the new hot yoga studios.
