In 2017, the flavor of pumpkin spice is BIG! Today's marketing has targeted our gustatory and olfactory senses with hopes of conjuring up holiday memories. Our sensory system is hard wired to connect these memories but they can elicit a strong emotional response, hopefully positive but not always.
Holidays are both wacky and wonderful at the same time. We frantically clean, prepare and sometimes panic in order to meet the expectations of our guests. Funny thing is that often the highest expectations are set by ourselves.
Keep those traditions that are working and when they don't, try something new. Ask for help, involve your friends and family to help them feel engaged and allow yourself to enjoy the feast this year. Sometimes the simpler meals taste better when you are fully present and relaxed. This sets you up to be the best host you can be and creates those positive memories for the next generation of hosts who are attending. Help them connect the sights and smells of the holidays with the joy of friends and family gathering over a meal with hearts filled with gratitude.
